A Soviet pack horse with a rolled blanket strapped to its back and a simple harness - calm standing pose, no rider. The everyday supply animal of an Eastern Front unit. Period: WWII Eastern Front, 1941-1945.
For all the iconic T-34s and Studebaker trucks, the Red Army of 1941-45 ran on horses - logistics, artillery limbers, cavalry, and battalion supply. By war's end the Soviet armed forces had used millions of horses; many infantry divisions never moved any other way.
