A Red Army field medic in tunic and pilotka, shoulder satchel with red-cross brassard, calm working pose. Half the casualties of the Eastern Front owe their survival to a figure like this. Period: WWII Eastern Front, 1941-1945.
Soviet front-line medics (sanitar, often women) carried personal aid kits forward and evacuated wounded under fire. The role and the satchel are immediately recognisable in any Eastern Front photo set.
