The agoge - the Spartan public education system from age 7 to 20 - shaped every Spartiate male. Older agoge boys served the council, kings, and ephors as runners, attendants, and trainee citizens. Described in detail by Plutarch (Lycurgus), Xenophon, and Pausanias.
Painting tips
- Cloak: undyed wool or pale Spartan red.
- Body: tanned and weathered.
- Hair: short, dark.
- Scroll: pale cream paper with a darker tie.
