Trench Spotter With Binoculars

A trench spotter with binoculars raised, head tilted upward - scanning the sky for the buzz that signals a Russian Lancet or Orlan inbound. Helmet, plate carrier, layered cold-weather jacket. Period: Russo-Ukrainian War, 2022-present.

Air-watch from trench positions is constant on both sides of the Russo-Ukrainian front. Soldiers describe listening before looking - the high whine of a quadcopter or the prop-buzz of a loitering munition gives seconds of warning. The spotter is the unit's eyes upward.
