A simple lean-to - blue or grey poly tarp stretched between an overpass column and a salvaged pole, weighted with rocks. The most common improvised shelter on every refugee site since the 1990s. Period: near-future apocalypse.
Poly tarps - construction-grade, UNHCR-issue, or whatever was at hand - are the universal cover of contemporary displacement. The lean-to layout is the simplest stable form: tied at one end, weighted along the ground edge.
Painting tips
- Tarp: faded blue (the iconic poly tarp), or muted UNHCR-blue.
- Tie-downs: pale tan paracord.
- Weight rocks: dirty grey with sepia wash.
- Mud splash at the base contact.
