A Caribbean palm tree trunk segment - fibrous textured bark, no fronds. The signature tropical scatter terrain. Period: Columbus voyages, 1492-1504.
The Caribbean shores Columbus first saw were crowded with palms - coccoloba, royal palm, coconut palm. Columbus described 'great trees with leaves like rushes' in his 1492 journal. The palm is the visual marker of the New World tropics in any age.
