A wall-mounted map board panel - framed, with a printed map face, scatter of pins and small flags. The situation-room board of any Cold War operations office. Period: Cold War, c. 1947-1991.
Map boards covered the walls of the Aquarium and every regional Soviet HQ - tracking NATO order of battle, embassy locations, fleet movements, and active source areas. The board itself is unchanged from WWII through the end of the Cold War.
Painting tips
- Frame: muted grey-green or dark wood.
- Map face: pale beige with faint blue-grey grid lines.
- Pins/flags: bright red dots and small red banners.
- Glass sheen: very faint pale gloss across the surface if you want it covered.
