A small consumer-pattern quadcopter reconnaissance drone set down on the ground - four arms, folded props, gimbal-mounted camera. The everyday reconnaissance tool of the modern war. Period: Russo-Ukrainian War, 2022-present.
Off-the-shelf DJI Mavic 3 and equivalent quadcopters became the universal forward-observation drone on both sides of the Russo-Ukrainian war. They spot artillery, range FPV strikes, drop small munitions, and provide live battle-damage assessment. Operators carry them in dedicated padded backpacks.
