A Soviet GRU case officer in plain suit and tie, paper folder tucked under one arm, calm standing pose. The middle-grade staffer who actually ran agents - not the field operative, not the general. Period: Cold War, c. 1947-1991.
The GRU (Glavnoye Razvedyvatel'noye Upravleniye) - Soviet Military Intelligence - operated out of the Akvarium headquarters on Khoroshyovskoye Highway in Moscow. Case officers ran source networks abroad and reported back through the apparatus; the suit and folder are the everyday silhouette of the trade.
