A worn pair of Roman sandals - taken off at the threshold and left side by side. Period: Roman antiquity, 1st c. BCE - 3rd c. CE.
Romans removed outdoor footwear before reclining or entering a clean interior, leaving sandals (soleae or caligae) at the door. This prop sculpts the pair fused at their contact point - a single object you can place on a doorstep, beside a stool, or under a bench.
Painting tips
- Leather: dark brown with worn highlights at toe and strap edges.
- Soles: lighter, dirtier underside.
- Iron hobnails (if visible): tiny dots of dark steel.
