Polish Lancer At Attention

A Polish lancer of Napoleon's service - czapka cap, kurtka jacket, lance held vertical at attention. The iconic figure of the Duchy of Warsaw under the Empire. Period: Napoleonic Era, 1799-1815.

Polish lancer regiments served Napoleon from the Italian campaigns through Spain, Russia, and the 1813-14 defensive war. The Vistula Lancers and Guard Lancers earned a reputation matched in their era only by the Mamelukes - and were the model for every European lancer regiment that followed.

Painting tips

  • Czapka: square-topped, dark blue (Guard) or crimson (Vistula) with white pompom.
  • Kurtka: dark blue with contrast plastron.
  • Lance pennon: red over white.
  • Boots: tall black leather.
