A heavily patinated industrial steel oil drum - 200-litre standard form, ribbed sides, top bung and cap, rusted hoops, layered patina of rust runs and oil streaks. Period: industrial age forward, c. 1900 CE - present.
The 200L (55 US-gallon) ribbed steel drum has been the universal industrial fluid container since the early 20th century - oil, fuel, chemicals, water. A patinated working drum reads as WWII fuel dump, Cold War depot, modern Sahel checkpoint, or post-apocalypse scavenge.
Painting tips
- Body: base colour worn through (faded blue, red, or olive) with heavy rust runs from the top bung.
- Ribs: bare-metal scrape highlights on the raised ridges.
- Bung and cap: dirty grease at the seams.
- Oil streak down one side; mud and grime at the base.
